Depuis le lancement de VTR-Hardware il y a une histoire de nous avons souvent parlé, à savoir la non intégration des CPU AMD par Dell dans ses machines. Souvent des rumeurs refont surface, mais il n’y a jamais rien de bien concret. Cette fois encore, nous n’avons pas la possibilité de confirmer la véracité de ce que nous annonce AMDZone, mais il se pourrait que nous n’ayons jamais été aussi proche de voir des CPU AMD chez Dell.

Susquehanna believes, based on its channel checks, AMD has finally been able to penetrate Dell and the firm view’s this as a key milestone for the company in the long battle vis-.-vis Intel. While Dell has always been an Intel exclusive OEM, the firm’s checks indicate that Dell is currently designing two dual-processor servers based on AMD’s Opteron processors. This would be the first time that AMD has been able to get in any of Dell’s systems and could open the door for AMD to expand its processor line-up into future Dell desktop PCs and notebooks. In addition, the firm believes the newly formed relationship with Sun should elevate AMD in the enterprise market. The firm notes Sun’s 64-bit Unix software is widely used in the worldwide enterprise server market, which is forecast to grow more than 3% compounded annually from $50 bln in C:03 to $58.5 bln in C:08.
